Matthew, Mark, Luke & John: A Synchronized Study

Of all the supernatural reports concerning Jesus the Messiah, the most impressive would have to be his resurrection from the grave after being killed in the most public and brutal way ever recorded in history. God's promise to the human race for deliverance from all guilt and death was made good at the cross and then made evident at Jesus' resurrection. To those who knew Jesus personally, the significance of that incredible event spawned the desire to compile a thorough report of everything Jesus said and did leading up to that point in history. While many reports were released in the first century, we have preserved for us today the very best in existence. The first 4 books of the New Testament are collectively known as "The Gospels (aka) The Good News" and each report was carefully put together by the individual and then published around 60 AD with subtle yet notable differences and perspectives unique to the observer. While Jesus had many followers and disciples, there were 12 that he personally appointed as special messengers. Matthew was one of the 12 and authored the 1st report, commonly known as "The Gospel According To Matthew". He was a former customs official who knew secretarial short-hand so his recording techniques were extremely detailed. Matthew's account focused primarily on the words and conversations of Jesus during his ministry. Matthew targeted an audience of Jewish readers and presented Jesus as the prophesied Messiah and he began his account with a Jewish genealogy and then Jesus' birth. "The Gospel According To Mark" is the 2nd report given in the New Testament and is actually Peter's account because Mark was a secretary of Peter. Peter was one of the 12 and a professional fisherman, a boisterous man of passion and quick to action. In his account, he focused primarily on the action oriented events of Jesus during his ministry. Peter targeted an audience of Roman readers and presented Jesus as the prophesied Suffering Servant and he began his account with Jesus' baptism. "The Gospel According To Luke" is the 3rd report given in the New Testament and is more of a documentary than a personal account. Luke wasn't an eyewitness, but an investigative reporter who interviewed countless eyewitnesses and then chronicled them after careful investigation to prequel his other book, "The Acts Of The Apostles". Luke was a professional physician and he focused on Jesus' humanity while paying close attention to what Jesus felt. Luke targeted an audience of Greek readers and presented Jesus as the prophesied Son Of Man and he began his account with Jesus' conception. "The Gospel According To John" is the 4th report given in the New Testament. John was one of the 12 Apostles and called the "beloved disciple". John primarily focused on Jesus' deity and paid serious attention to WHO Jesus actually was: God Himself visiting His creation, in human flesh. John's account was written to a universal audience while simultaneously targeting a spiritual audience. John presented Jesus as the prophesied Son Of God and he began his account with Jesus' role in the creation of the universe. The following study sessions are a synchronized study of the reports provided by all 4 of these men.
